MOTHMAN
Mothman- a bizzare cryptid that has been seen near the golden gate bridge. witness accounts are inconclusive. some witnesses say it had feathered wings while others say it has bat wings. all witnesses say it had piercing red eyes, and they say that if you look into its eyes, your eyes will burn like fire for several days.
SASQUATCH
sasquatch- a fairly famous cryptid. also called bigfoot. there have been many sightings, but no proof of existence. most tabloids are willing to pay a lot of money for actual photographs. there have been several theories of his existance ranging from being a man in a costume to being a rare primate to being a whole new species. in one case, a group of teenagers from new york claim to have shot and killed a sasquatch and have its severed head on display.
LOCH NESS MONSTER
the loch ness monster- one of the most famous cryptids. seen near loch ness, scotland. it was at one time proven to be a hoax, but sightings are still reported. also known as nessie. one witness said it was six feet tall and fourty feet long.
CHUPACABRA
chupacabra- a cryptid found in mexico and near texas. its name when translated is "goat sucker". it gets its name from the fact that it drains the blood from goats and other livestock. there have been several sightings of supposed chupacabras, one chupacabra carcass turned out to be a grey fox with mange. some people say it resembles a mix between a monkey, a bat, a crocodile, and an insect. some witnesses saw it looks like a wolf or a dog. others say it resembles a dragon or an alien. all witnesses say it leaps like a cat and doesnt leave footprints.
RODS
rods- a very strange cryptid. some people say it has six wings down its sides, and others say it has a thin membrane running across its body. they have never been seen by humans. the only way to see them is with a video camera. all people who have seen them on tape say it has a simple shape and quickly disappears. some people say it is a new species, some say its from another dimension, others say its not even from this planet. the most famous place to see them is the cave of the swallows in mexico, if you videotape the canyon, you will sometimes see rods, the only to tell if they are rods and not birds is if you can see them off camera. if you can, they're birds, if not, they're rods.
DE LOY'S APE
de loy's ape- a lesser known cryptid. it was first discovered in switzerland. two have been seen, one male and one female. very little is known about this cryptid, even its name is unknown. this creatures face has haunted amatuer cryptozoologists for years.
BLACK SHUCK
black shuck- a cryptid usually associated with a curse. according to a british legend, if you see a black dog whose fur doesn't reflect any light, death will soon come. there have been several sightings. in one case, a black dog suddenly appeared in a church, it paced up and down the aisle like it was looking for someone. it soon disappeared as suddenly as it appeared. in another case, a black dog came into a town hall meeting. it killed only one person, and then left. to this day, there is a scorch mark on the seat he was in. in another case, a man walking through the country heard a dog bark and looked back to see it. he saw a black dog, and tried to run away. he wound up falling off a cliff. every case of a black dog sighting says that it has pitch black fur that won't reflect even the smallest bit of light, and eyes that were either burning red or black and abyssmal. black shuck has many names and appearances. some witnesses say black shuck is headless, and some witnesses say they saw it floating on a cloud of mist. according to one legend in england, if you see a black dog with red eyes, don't tell anyone for a year and a day, or else everyone you told about it will die.
JERSEY DEVIL
jersey devil- a well known cryptid. it is said to have the head of a deer, the horns of a goat, the mouth of a dog, the wings of a bat, and the body of an antelope. there have been several sightings of the jersey devil. there is a zoo in new jersey that will pay $5,000 for a live jersey devil. one person tried to collect the reward by giving the zoo a painted kangaroo with fake wings. it is said to wonder the forests of southern new jersey looking for prey. according to a legend, if the jersey devil can't find any food, it will go into peoples houses and steal food from their kitchen. the only evidence of the jersey devil entering your house is a scorch mark on the fireplace that never goes away. it leaves scorches on the fireplace because it enters peoples houses through the chimney. according to the legend, the jersey devil was born from a woman having her thirteenth child. in her intense pain she shouted "let it be the devil". the baby was born normal, but moments after it was born, it turned into a hideous beast, killed the woman and her family, and flew into the woods.
MONGOLIAN DEATH WORM
mongolian death worm- a cryptid found in the gobi desert in mongolia. it is said to be between two and five feet long. according to a mongolian legend, it has two ways to kill prey. it can either dissolve their flesh by spitting sulfuric acid or emmit a powerful electric current. it is also called allghoi or khorkhoy, which means "blood filled intestine" because it is said to resemble the intestine of a cow. the mongolian death worm is said to hibernate for most of the year and wake up only to feed. according to one hypothesis, the mongolian death worm is actually an amphisbaenid, or "worm lizard".
POPE LICK MONSTER
pope lick monster- a lesser known cryptid. it is said to live near pope lick creek in louisville, kentucky. witness accounts say it resembles a half-human half-goat creature. some say it uses either hypnosis or voice mimicry to lure people onto the pope lick trestle to be killed by a train, others say it jumps down from the trestle onto the train cars beneath the bridge. others say it kills its victims with a bloody axe. according to one legend, the pope lick monster was originally a human-goat hybrid in a freak show. another legend says it is the twisted reincarnated form of a farmer who sacrificed goats to gain satanic power.
SKINWALKER
skinwalker- a legendary cryptid among navajo indians. the legend says the skinwalker is actually a human with magic powers. the skinwalker is said to be able to turn into an animal by wearing its skin. the best known skinwalker form is a wolf or coyote. the skin walker is also known as yee naldooshii, which means "he who walks on all fours". the skinwalker can even mimic the voices of other people. the skinwalker may have been inspired by the coyote, which is depicted as a prankster in native american stories. a similar being was the berserker, a human who gained amazing strength by wearing the skin of a bear. the skinwalker is possibly the only cryptid that is human. navajo legend says that its eyes glow like an animals eyes in human form and not glow in animal form. the skinwalker also inspired a hopi indian ritual called the ya ya cerimony, where people are said to become animals by wearing the skin of an animal they killed. the hopi use certain atributes like strength or sight from the animals. the ritual was banned after members inexplicably developed eye disease. often, witnesses say they saw an animal attacking livestock. when they try to shoot it, the bullet has no effect. the only sign of a skinwalker is animal footprints that become human footprints. some say that when the skinwalker changes from one animal to another, it leaves the first animal's skin behind. according to one legend, the skinwalker can read minds. the only way to kill a skinwalker is to say the skinwalker's full name and the skinwalker will die three days later. because only saying its name can kill a skinwalker, only people who know the skinwalker can kill them.

WENDIGO
wendigo-a legendary cryptid. its actually more of a myth than a cryptid. in the algonquan tribe, it is said that those who indulge in cannibalism will be cursed by turning into the wendigo. it is said to be a cannibalistic ape-like spirit that can change shape and possess humans. there is a rare form of insanity named after the wendigo called "wendigo psycosis". it causes its sufferers to develop an insatiable craving for human flesh. the wendigo has appeared several times in modern culture, most notably in the incredible hulk comics and cartoons. in tribal culture, it is seen as a symbol of gluttony, greed, and excess because it is never satisfied with killing and eating only one human. the wendigo legend may have been started to keep people from resorting to cannibalism during times of hardship and famine.
THYLACINE
thylacine- an extinct cryptid found in tasmania. they were also called the tasmanian tiger, the blue tiger, or the tasmanian wolf. despite the name tasmanian tiger and tasmanian wolf, it is neither a tiger or a wolf, its a carnivorous marsupial. their most notable features were a small row of stripes on its back, its backward facing pouch, and its large gaping mouth, its mouth was the largest of any mammal on earth. it was the worlds largest carnivorous marsupial. unlike other cryptids, there is scientific proof that it existed. the last one was filmed in a tasmanian zoo in 1933. they are now extinct, but some scientists are trying to bring them back by implanting thylacine dna into rats. so far the experiment is a success because the rats developed to resemble thylacines. scientists hope to soon bring back the thylacine. a bizzare trait it had was it walked using its entire foot instead of just its toes like other mammals. even though it resembles a wolf or tiger, it is unrelated to any known predator on earth. there have been several thylacine sightings even after they became extinct.
